History of Destiny Shapers

The organization started with 23 kids in 2014 February in Nursery class. Our Basic Education admits children from 4 years and above with classes running from PP1 to Grade 3. We began with three volunteers now we have ten members of staffs on a permanent basis.

Destiny Shapers envisions a disciplined, independent and morally upright society. Our Mission is to train and equip our pupils and parents to face the challenges posed by their environment and the world and give them the necessary skills and platform needed to shape their character, discipline, and morals.

At Destiny Shapers CBO, we focus on the following three areas to give our students a firm foundation.

Education

Through our flagship program, i.e., Early Childhood Care and Development, we have not only interacted with orphans and vulnerable children but also guided them in boosting their self-esteem and nurturing their talents.

The Team

Co-Founder

Esther Munene

Co-Founder, Destiny Shapers Center

She is passionate about economic empowerment and believes in a family approach as a way solving children social issues. A former high school teacher, pioneer of Peter Kibukosya Secondary School and an experienced social worker she brings a wealth of knowledge in project management in slum areas and partnership building through established networks.

She holds a bachelor degree in Education and a diploma in Basic Christian Counselling. Currently pursuing Masters in Special Education. She is married to James Mwangi K. and they are blessed with three children.

Lilian Kamigwi

Co-Founder, Destiny Shapers Center

Lilian is an ardent promoter of laying strong foundations for children at tender ages. A former teacher at St. Anne’s Meru and social worker she aspires to work with, and for the children and mold them in morally upright ways. She brings forth vast experience in early childhood, teaching, and all-around child development as well as school administration.

She holds a Diploma in Early Childhood Development and Education.

Eng. Peter Githiomi

Board Member

Managing Director M/s Route Contractors Ltd

Member of Executive Business Group (EBG) - Executive Leadership Network (ELNET) and chairman of BLF (Business Leaders Forum), he has 25 years’ experience in design, supervision, and construction of roads and buildings both in Kenya and South Sudan. He is registered with Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) as a Professional Engineer. He is also working with AfD /GoK Roads 2000 Project in Mt Kenya region of Kenya, seeking to provide reliable access to rural areas of Kenya using appropriate road design, local materials, and creation of employment for local communities.

Eng. Githiomi holds a BSc degree in Civil Engineering, and offers a wealth of experience in strategy, business growth, as well as project management for mega projects. He is married to Eunice Wamuyu Maina and they are blessed with two children; Alvin, and Glory.

Diana Gitari

Teacher and Seasoned Entrepreneur

With over 15 years teaching experience at both primary and secondary school levels, she has been able to not only possess a vast understanding of child psychology and educational success but also curriculum management and subject planning.

As an experienced entrepreneur managing enterprises in transport, agribusiness, and retail, she brings on board practical startup business skills during parental empowerment. Diana holds a B.Ed degree from Kenyatta University and is married with two children.

John King

Board Member

John ahas been travelling to and working in Kenya since 2005. He has primarily worked in Naivasha with Panua: Partners in Hope, a program that provides entrepreneurship and vocational training to orphans and vulnerable children.

He is a follower of Jesus Christ, a husband, friend, brother, and a son. Additionally, he is a business leader, filmmaker, and a musician.

John wholeheartedly believes in the work of Destiny Shapers, the leadership of Lilian and Esther, and is humbled to play a small role in the important and eternal work they are doing.

He is compelled and challenged to this work by James 1:27 that says "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to lookafter orphans and widows in their distressand to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Founder Dignified Children International (DCI)

She is a regular consultant on children matters, skilled in communication, networking and building business relationships she has worked and continues to work with various communities and NGOs across Africa and the USA. Her experience lies not only in startup projects but also in an extensive understanding of various multicultural and language dynamics.

She brings on board her skills in fundraising, networking and project management for children. Phoebe holds a Bachelor of Education (English and Literature) degree from Egerton University with over 10 years’ experience in project management. She is married with two children.

Founder of Leadnow Africa

Author @ Generation Y, a book that equips leaders on how to engage and impact today’s generation. He is a gifted communicator, mentor, strategic leadership advisor and a global youth thinker privileged to work in the trenches of church leadership and forefront of youth transformation for more than 15 years.

Oscar brings forth guidance in youth management and positive child development as well as strategic planning for sustainability of the organization.

He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in social and civic entrepreneurship at Bakke Graduate University in Seattle, Washington. He is married to Jennifer Amisi and together, they are the privileged parents of Kristi Amisi.
