Parental Empowerment

At Destiny Shapers, we believe it is all about kids and in this regard we work towards ensuring that not only the child is supported but also the parent because by empowering the parent the child will also benefit.

Our social research our school parents showed that 75% of our children have both parents and 17% are single mothers. Most of these parents have odd/causal jobs ranging from Kes 100 to Kes 500 per day with no guaranteed expectation for job engagement the next day or irresponsibility of high degree. Due to the daily challenges and the peer pressure with the Korogocho area sadly, we have 30% of the parents were on drugs; some are drug peddlers, prostitutes and other had lost meaning in life.

As an organization, we have organized various activities to also support these parents including counseling, soft skills, and self-awareness. Such events have brought about positive behavior change and fewer family conflicts and a significant reduction in drugs and substance abuse.

Through the support of well-wishers and professional volunteers, our parents have and continue to benefit from discussion forums on legal awareness, entrepreneurship, health and financial literacy.

Our key focus areas are:

  • Literacy
